Garment Construction I

Garment Construction is a 24 hour class that meets twice a week, 3 hours a day for 4 weeks with Instructor Olivia Masters.

SESSION DATES:  

May 1st to May 24th 2017 |  M/W |  Evening only 6:30pm-9:30pm

June 5th to June 28th 2017 |  M/W |  Evening only 6:30pm-9:30pm

July 3rd to July 26th 2017 |  M/W |  Evening only 6:30pm-9:30pm

This introductory course is perfect for the student who has no sewing knowledge, and for the one who wants to learn professional techniques. This class covers the essential fashion design skills necessary to create a garment. Students will learn various techniques and skills such as seams, interfacing, pressing techniques, hems, pleats, darts, zippers, how to cut your first garment, vocabulary, the use of the serger machine and more. To apply and demonstrate their knowledge, students will complete in-class samples and finish a final project along the way. See image of *A-line skirt for final project on pictures.

*A-line skirt for final project: Every Fashion Design training will build their Garment Construction foundation with A SKIRT.
Our SKIRT (final project) will give you an unexpected hands-on experience in only one month! Keeping all samples for your personal portfolio along the way, as well!
Our ASFD A-line skirt has multiple elements such as:
-Different seams styles and use. 
-Serger seams. Get acquainted with the Serger machine and its use. 
-Basics on FABRIC theory with vocabulary. Yes: You'll need to take lots of notes!
-Lay out of patterns on fabric and cut it properly.
-Darts and Yoke.
-Zippers: 2 different styles.
-Interface and its use.
-Bias tape hem...and much, much more!
